Lorpen socks – technology driven by passion

Before Lorpen was founded in the early 1980's, our founders were disappointed with the socks they were using during their treks through the Pyrenees. The need for more comfort and durability drove them to start Lorpen.

Today we still rigorously field test all of our socks in the Pyrenees before they ever get near your feet. This ensures that you get the most technical, well crafted socks available today. And that means comfortable feet no matter what activity you choose to do.

Our socks fall into three categories: Tri-Layer, Classic and Comfort Life.

Great socks require great ingredients

Our continued goal of making the best technical socks on the market means that we spend a huge amount of time sourcing the best yarns available. We use yarns that are not just of the highest quality, but also that seek to reduce their environmental impact. Here are some of the yarns we're proud to use in making Lorpen socks.

Natural Yarns

Merino wool is a finely crimped and soft wool with staples (fibre lengths) that are commonly 65 – 100 mm (2.5 – 4 inches) long and less than 24 microns in diameter. The core of a merino fibre is hydrophilic (water retaining), and is breathable. The fine micron diameter ensures it feels soft and comfortable next to the skin. Merino has the ability to help keep the foot warm in winter and cool in summer.

Tencel is a cellulose fibre made from Eucalyptus trees grown on certified sustainable farms. The very fine internal fibre structure of Tencel offers exceptional moisture transport, storage and drying capabilities. It's extremely smooth surface feels very soft and pleasant to the skin. Tencel is used as the middle layer of our Tri-Layer sock collections where aerobic activities require very effective moisture management capabilities.

Modal is a cellulose fibre made from selectively harvested Beech trees grown in managed forests throughout Europe. Modal's unmistakable characteristic is incredible softness next to the skin. Modal is used extensively in our Work, Uniform and Comfort Life collections.

Synthetic Yarns

Coolmax is a branded polyester fibre with channels that very effectively moves moisture away from the skin. Coolmax is used as the next to skin layer in our Tri-Layer sock collections where aerobic activities require very effective moisture management capabilities.

Lycra or elastane is a synthetic fibre (Nylon) known for its exceptional elasticity and elastic memory. Lycra content in Lorpen socks typically range from 5 to 10%. Lycra keeps our socks snug and in place.

PrimaLoft Eco polyester yarn features a blend of 30% PrimaLoft fibres and 70% PCR materials, providing an environmentally sustainable alternative to yarns made solely from virgin fibre. Used as the next to skin layer in our merino based Lorpen Tri-Layer socks, PrimaLoft Eco is soft, non absorbing and very effective at moisture transport.

Polycolon is a synthetic fibre spun from polypropylene. It wicks moisture very effectively, absorbs next to nothing and dries very quickly. Polycolon is the finest gauge yarn that we use and is perfect for very intimate fits, especially in high performance ski boots.

Over the past few years, we've been hard at work developing
what we believe are the best socks on the market today—our
Tri-Layer line.

Socks play a crucial role in keeping you comfortable. Be it running, cycling, hiking, mountaineering or just spending a few hours walking, foot comfort is key to enjoying
what you do.

Tri-Layer technology is an evolution in comfort and performance.

Tri-Layer raises the bar in sock design by combining three layers that work together. These layers provide three major benefits; better moisture management, more comfort and serious durability. The result is a sock that performs at the level you need it to, over and over again.

Here's how Tri-Layer works:

Layer 1 (the layer that is next to your skin) is synthetic.
Synthetic fibres are better at wicking moisture away from your feet than natural yarns. Hydrophobic (non-absorbent) in nature, these fibres work quickly to move moisture away from your foot and into Layer 2.

Layer 2 (the middle layer) is natural.
Natural fibres are hydrophilic (absorbent) and actually suck the moisture away from Layer 1 spreading it out to speed up the evaporation process. The result is feet that stay dry for longer periods of time.

Layer 3 (the outer layer) is synthetic.
Nylon is knit as the outer layer to add durability to the sock and provide greater resistance in high friction areas.

Commonly used for military applications, Nylon is renown for its excellent abrasion resistance. As the outer layer of our unique Tri-Layer system, it helps your socks to last longer and retain their comfort, even after many washes.

Tri-Layer technology is the result of years of research and testing. If you want to try softer, more comfortable socks that last longer, then check out our Tri-Layer line up.

Our Comfort Life line of socks represents a leap in everyday sock comfort. Cotton socks have been around for years, but if you try a pair of Comfort Life socks, you'll never look back.

Cotton socks absorb and retain moisture, keeping your feet wet and promoting blisters and hot spots. Our Comfort Life socks are made using Modal® – a fibre made from beech trees or Merino Wool - a fibre that is both water retaining and breathable.

Modal is made by spinning reconstituted cellulose from beech trees into a yarn that is soft, comfortable and holds colour extremely well. It’s also about 50% more hydrophilic, or water-absorbent, than cotton is.

The fine micron diameter of Merino wool ensures it feels soft and comfortable next to the skin. Merino has the ability to help keep the foot warm in winter and cool in summer.

It’s fun, functional comfort that takes it’s cue from nature. That’s Comfort Life.

The name Classic says it all. These socks have been there and done that. Although they are less technical than our Tri-Layer socks, satisfied customers keep requesting them. We're only too happy to oblige as some are our favourites too.

STOP Technology
We’ve done the impossible. Only our STOP Odor Elimination Technology lets you spend an entire day hunting without any foot odors to give you away.

Foot odour has always been a challenge, especially for bow hunters.
Wearing heavy boots to keep your feet dry often end up making your feet sweat, which causes foot odour.

If an animal picks up the faintest scent, they’re gone. So after hours in a tree stand, the last thing you need is to be tipped off by foot odour.

We knit our STOP technology fibres directly into the sock as a lining where they transform the acrid odour of sweat into completely odourless compounds. You’re left without even a hint of odour.

It’s as amazing as it sounds.

Our STOP technology is offered in a wide array of hunting socks and liners.

LIFE Fit stands for Lorpen Innovative Fit Elements. It provides superb comfort for your feet and the peace of mind to handle whatever adventure comes your way.

Men’s and women’s feet are different.
So why don’t some ‘performance’ socks address these differences? Don’t we all deserve comfortable feet?

Our LIFE Fit system is designed to marry footwear and feet in a perfect union of comfort and performance.

Both Men’s and Women’s LIFE Fit include:

  1. Lycra® Plus to prevent slipping
  2. multi density knitting for better fit and cushioning
  3. a mesh instep to reduce bulk and aid with breathability and moisture release
  4. a flat knit toe seam to prevent irritation
  5. But because Women have narrower feet, our Women’s LIFE Fit also has:
a narrower heel and forefoot to reduce bunching and discomfort.

“I work in the hospital and am on my feet for 12 hours per shift. My legs feel great after standing for that long, I only wish I had known about them sooner.”
